What a wonderful time of year to be 4 years old! Ashley has had a great month filled with festivities of all kinds. She is really getting into the spirit of things.
Ashley is doing great at school. She loves her new friends, but still talks about her former classmates and teachers from time to time. She absolutely loves learning! She’s bringing books home to read. She’s cutting everything she can get her hands on, at least paper! When we’re in the car she is really looking at everything from a new pair of eyes. She likes to point out how buildings are made of different shapes. For the letter I show and tell we measured her to see how many inches tall she was and cut a string 40 inches long. She was supper excited to share that with her friends!
Ashley was a helper getting the house decorated for Christmas. She was practically beside herself while all the boxes kept coming in the house with new things to play with. At one point she was asked to put some things in the trash. She responded, “I’m so excited about Christmas I’ll do whatever you want!” Now that’s a great attitude! Ashley was also on the hunt for Artie. She kept thinking he we show up at any point. Artie made his appearance on December 1st. Ashley found Artie in her stocking. Artie watches over Ashley and every night goes back to the North Pole to report to Santa if Ashley has been naughty or nice. So far, so good! The following morning, before she could even open her eyes, she rolled over and said, “Have you seen Artie?”
No tears for Santa! Wow! Remember this? We didn’t have that experience at all! When we first discussed going to see Santa Ashley still wasn’t too hip on the idea of sitting on his lap. She really wanted to stand by his knee like she did last year. We explained that if she sat on Santa’s lap, then Addie would do exactly what ever she did. Ashley was very brave! She told Santa she wanted a pogo stick and a scooter for Christmas! Hmm, hope Santa remembers how to make a pogo stick! To celebrate such a great experience we all went out to a restaurant for dinner, one of Ashley’s favorite things to do.
Ashley made a countdown to Christmas chart at school. For our nightly routine she gets to cut one number off of Santa’s beard. She’s loving it! We had a special morning with a special visitor when Santa showed up for Breakfast! It was our annual gathering with friends. It’s amazing how much Ashley has grown since our first Breakfast with Santa. Ashley loved creating her ornaments. As soon as Santa walked in the door he told her Artie had been telling him all the good things Ashley had been doing at home. Santa gave Ashley a new book.
Ashley was also very excited about her Christmas dance recital. She’s been practicing for weeks! She got a new Santa bag to carry her dance shoes. She was so excited the day of the recital she had to work her dance floor puzzle before she could go. She did great! She really knew what step was supposed to happen at what time. She did a tap dance to Up on the House Top and a ballet dance to Hark the Herald Angels Sing. For doing such a great job, every one celebrated with an ice cream treat!
Ashley enjoyed fun activities though out the month at school. Ashley got to watch The Polar Express for the first time. She didn’t enjoy the hot chocolate, but loved wearing her pajamas to school! Let the countdown to Christmas continue!
