Ashley had a busy month trying to squeeze in all the summer fun before school started. With the temperature outside so hot we tried to find plenty of things to do indoors. There was still several days spent trying to organize the new house. Ashley was a big help when it came time to sorting all of our books. We decided we needed a cold treat after all that work. Ashley was also determined to have a Pajama Day. She was very upset when her Pajama Day was cut short because she had to put on clothes to go to a tumbling class. She was insistent that she be able to wear her pajamas for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! So, she did!! In the mean time, there was so much dress-up time. Ashley loved coming out of her room in all different combinations of costumes. One time she came out with the Pumpkin Fairy costume under Cinderella, that was under her “Bunny Rope” (robe) that was under the Pocahontas costume with her bicycle helmet on her head. Her most current favorite thing to wear is a special pink “princess ring.” She has also proclaimed herself Daddy’s shirt boss. Every night Ashley tells Daddy which shirt he is to wear the next day. Be ware of the shirt boss!
Ashley went to see a musical, The Little Mermaid. She’s been talking about the pirates in the play ever since. She went to story time at our local library where it “rained” and she enjoyed the crafts. Ashley also used her ticket she earned for reading so many books this summer to go to the circus. She was so excited in the days leading up to the circus! She loved the elephants and talked about all the silly clowns. There were many different acrobats all over the “three rings” it was hard to keep up with what was going on. Ashley wanted another tiger snow cone as a treat. It was a really great afternoon!
As our last big adventure of summer we took a surprise trip to the American Girl store. Ashley was singing, “We’re in the city! We’re in the city!” when she realized where we really were. She was so excited about the “Bitty Baby Store” she almost jumped out of her car seat before Mommy could park. Ashley had so much fun looking at all the different displays. Ashley decided her Bitty Baby needed a new feeding set. As we watched several dolls have their hair fixed she asked when her baby would grow hair. Mommy told her it would be a while! On our way home we made another surprise stop and had lunch with Daddy at his office. Ashley looked out Daddy’s window and tried to find our new house, but it was a little too far away. She really enjoyed watching the airplanes.
Now it’s back to the daily school routine. Ashley has started her new school and seems to be adjusting well. When asked how her first day of school went she replied, “We didn’t even go over the rules!” She said she likes taking a “nap” on the cots (although she never goes to sleep!). We’re looking forward to a good school year!
