Ashley loves her new class and new teacher. She is now in the Preschool room with Ms. Ash. In just a few weeks she has learned the days of the week, months of the year and the Pledge of Allegiance! When they are young it is truly amazing what their minds will absorb! Every day Ms. Ash has another funny story to tell about Ashley. One particular day it all happened at lunch! Ashley is a slow eater and Ms. Ash told her and 2 other friends lunch was over. Ashley turned to her friends and started singing “Lunch is not over! Lunch is not over! Lunch is not over!” Oh my!! Another day Ms. Ash was teaching the children how to play musical chairs. When the music stopped and Ashley couldn’t find a chair she started pulling one from the “extra” pile! Ashley’s favorite center is the dress-up center. She puts on her “raincoat” (a blazer), a sock hat, one purse around her neck, and another purse on her arm. She’s ready to go!
Ashley likes to play “school” when she’s at home too. She frequently tells us it’s circle time and we need to sit on the carpet. She likes to read books to us and count. One morning when I went to get her out of bed she had her baby dolls sitting in circle time and was reading Baby Beluga to them. At home we've also been working on telling time on the clock. Daddy has started pointing to different parts of the clock in the kitchen and telling Ashley at a certain point she will take a bath, finish eating, and so on. It seems to be working because she's been keeping her eye on the clock and wants to know if the other clock (in the living room) is the same.
At school they are learning to be independent which can some times be a problem at home. Ashley pours her own milk at school and thinks she should be able to do this at home also, but Mommy and Daddy think differently. We often hear “I do it! I do it!” Another word she’s learning at school is helper. Ashley loves to be a helper! And she loves to tell you when you’ve been a good helper too! “Good Helper Mommy!” “Daddy’s a good helper.”
Daddy was very excited when he came home one day to find out Ashley had learned how to scratch people’s back. He has been waiting a long time for this day! When she asked if she could scratch his back he said “Yes!” The only problem is she has a limited range and she doesn’t scratch for very long. Daddy was disappointed. Just have to keep working on it!
We went for a visit to Leesville and Ashley thought it was so funny to tell Uncle John she loves Aunt Ne! She would tell him and practically roll on the ground laughing every time!
